Retro Push Car Restoration
This post is a step by step guide on restoring a Retro Push Car from the 70s/80s.
Step 1. Disassemlbe the push car including the steering mechanism, wheels, hubs and mounts.
Step 2. Sandblast all parts that are to be painted
Step 3. Polish all the Chrome pieces and add Lanolin for Rust protection
Step 4. Etch prime the bare metal components
Step 5. Spray a Metallic Silver base coat to help the candy paint really pop
Step 6. Mix your Candy concentrate powder (available on Ebay) with your Metallic Binder
Step 7. Candy paint is translucent so when you spray it you will see your base metallic coat in the sun
Step 8. Apply at least 4 coats of Candy paint to get a really shiny finish
Step 9. Apply at least 2 coats of clear paint. I usually use 4 as a general rule
Step 10. Sand all parts with 1200 Grit sandpaper to remove the orange peel
Step 11. Buff all parts with a buffing machine and cutting compound
Step 12. Reassemble the push car
