El TARDIS Bike - Metal Flake Blue

El TARDIS Bike

This bike is inspired by the popular BBC TV Show called Doctor Who. Below is a pictorial of the steps taken to finish this bike.

Step 1. Find an old Lowrider Bike Frame on ebay/gumtree.
Step 2. Salvage all parts that can be re-used
Step 3. Sandblast all salvaged parts back to bare metal
Step 4. Etch Prime all sandblasted parts ASAP to avoid corrosion
Step 5. Apply a base coat of Blue that is close to the desired finish (We used Ironlak Royal Blue)
Step 6. Lay the Metal Flake with binder over the top of the base coat

Step 7. Sand the Metal Flake original finish with 400 Grit sandpaper lightly to smooth the flake
Step 8. Apply as much clear coat as necessary to cover the rough texture of the metal flake
Step 9. Leave the paint for 1 week to cure properly
Step 10. Sand with 1200 Grit sandpaper to remove the "Orange peel" off the gun finish
Step 11. Buff with a buffing machine and cutting compund
Step 12. Order any parts that are required to get the required "look and feel" you are looking for
Step 13. You now have a glassy High Gloss finish, assemble your bike
Step 14. Enjoy!
